Benjamin J. Hall was born in Oct. 1825 in New Jersey to Elijah and (Anna Maria) "Ann" Cummins Hall. In 1834 the family moved to Trumbull County, Ohio. Benjamin's siblings were Miranda/Myra/Mira (MD 1st George Brazee; then Benjamin H. VanNess); Mary Ann (MD Rev Joseph Waldorf); Jane "Jennie" ( MD 1st Henry Phillips, 2nd Henry Thomas); Abraham R; David W; Wilbur E. and Isaac, who died at age 10.

Benjamin married Ruth Cox (b. 1830 in PA) in 1852. Daughters Emma Lucinda (1853)and Elsa (1856)were born in Pennsylvania, but the couple's other children were all born in Ohio: Edward Everett (1858), Wilbur Elijah (1864), Carrie M. (1866), Lucy (1868), Infant (1871-1871), and Benjamin F. (1878). In the 1900 Census, Ruth reported that she was the mother of 8 children, 5 of whom were still living. Benjamin gave his occupation as "carpenter."

Benjamin served in the Civil War in Co. F 169th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry and later was a member of the Eugene Rawson Post No. 321, G.A.R., in Fremont, Ohio. He lived in Fremont from 1860 until his death in 1902.
