Have you ever known a teacher who knew the names of every student she taught in kindergarten? Nancy Cook Catando was that person. This beautiful teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend of so many, passed away on March 23, 2006, with her loving family at her side. Born in Huntingdon, PA, she resided in Woodbury for 45 years. She was 66 years old. Nancy had a special talent for teaching young children, having taught first grade for 2 1/2 years at the Evergreen Ave. School, Woodbury, and kindergarten for 26 years at Woodbury Heights Elementary School. She was awarded the prestigious "Teacher of the Year" award and touched the lives of literally hundreds of students and adults. Nancy graduated from Central Cambria H.S. in Ebensburg, PA in 1957, and Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA in 1961, majoring in elementary education. She enjoyed a wide variety of activities, but especially enjoyed reading, biking, vacationing in Ocean City with her family and friends, and above all, being with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed pinochle, and bridge, having played bridge with the same eight women for 35 years. Her other varied activities included Club Gourmet, church activities and in particular the Florence Circle of the Kemble Methodist Church. Nancy was a life long member of the New Jersey Education Association, Gloucester County Retired Teachers Association, Juniata College Alumni Association, Club Gourmet, Woodbury Breakfast Rotary and Kemble Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, sons. She is also survived by six grandchildren. In addition Nancy is survived by two brother, Dr. James L. Cook (Linda), and Dr. John Cook (Carol). She was predeceased by a sister, Jayne Christman.
