Dr. Cook practiced Optometry for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Linda Stalnecker Cook and 4 children : James L. Cook III, Dr. Scott Cook, Joy Cook McElwee, and Beth Cook Vislosky, and 9 Grandchildren. His brother, Dr. John Cook also survives. He was preceded by his parents, James L Cook Sr. and Betty Weaver Cook, his sisters, Nancy Cook Catando and Jayne Cook Christman.
Dr. Cook graduated from Central Cambria High School, Juniata College, and The Ohio State University. He was a member and former president of Kiwanis Club, chairmen of Kiwanis Medical Eye Bank, member of Indiana Country Club, past president of Indiana Basketball Boosters, a member of the Red Cross Board of Directors, Salvation Army Board of Directors, IUP President Council Charter, and a volunteer youth elementary basketball and soccer coach for more than 20 years. Dr Cook was a People to People Ambassador who traveled to China and India participating in vision exchanges. He served as a medical missionary providing eye care to children in Haiti, Mexico, Jamaica, Guatemala, and South America.
He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a Fellow of the PA Academy of Optometry, past president of the Southwestern Optometric Society, past director of the PA Optometric Association, member of the American Optometric Association, and a member of the National Eye Research Foundation. Dr. Cook was a Mason, a Shriner, and a former elder of Graystone Presbyterian Church in Indiana, PA.
