He was born on Nov. 12, 1921, in rural Manitowoc, son of the late John and Martha (Luebke) Borgwardt.
Alton attended St. John's Lutheran School in Newtonburg.
In 1946, he married Blondena Lawrence in Newtonburg. She preceded him in death on July 7, 1986.
On Nov. 6, 1987, Alton married Rosemary Vanderbusch in Two Rivers.
Alton was a dairy farmer in Manitowoc County until his retirement in 1983. He was a Supervisor on the Town Board of Centerville from 1979 until 1983.
Survivors include his wife: Rosemary, Apache Junction, Ariz.; three step-children: Karen (Jerry) Reusch, Apache Junction, Ariz., Allen (Rose) Vanderbusch, Rock Falls, Ill., and Tom (Kay) Vanderbusch, New Berlin Wis.; five step-grandchildren: Jeffrey (Monica) Reusch, Brian Vanderbusch, Scott Vanderbusch, Holly Vanderbusch, Heidi Vanderbusch; two step great-grandchildren: Aaron and Trystan Reusch; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Irma (Harvey) Draheim, Arland Lawrence, Agnes Lawrence, Gene Kostka, and Jim (Pat)Van Sleet.
He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters-in-law: Irene Lawrence, and Helen Kostka; and one brother-in-law: Harold Lawrence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2426 N. Rapids Road, Manitowoc.
Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Thomas Pankow with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2426 N. Rapids Road, Manitowoc from 9 to 10:45 a.m.
