Thomas C. Abruzzo, 84, died yesterday, March 26, 2006, at his home in the Fords section of Woodbridge Township.


Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Fords since 1965. He worked as a typesetter for The News Tribune in Woodbridge for 20 years, retiring in 1986. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of sergeant, was a survivor of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, and served in the Solomon Islands, Guadalcanal and Okinawa. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church in Fords, and a member of Our Lady of Peace Knights of Columbus Council 9199 in Fords, and American Legion T. Nulty Post 471 in Iselin.

Mr. Abruzzo is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gilda Falcone Abruzzo; two daughters, Nina Czinkota and her husband, Steven, of Fords and Ann Nebus and her husband, Gary Sr., of Fords; four grandchildren, Dena Ann Febus, Robert Czinkota, Gary Nebus Jr. and Thomas Nebus, and two great-grandchildren, Gary Nebus III and Ryan Febus.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, later at the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green St. at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. Time will be announced later. Entombment will follow at Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Friends may call from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
