Emporia, Va., Oct. 10.-John Chaplin, 84, a large land owner and farmer, died in his home near here Friday. He was born and reared in England, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schoolcroft Chaplin of Menthorpe. He is survived by one brother, Robert Chaplin, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilkinson, of Howden, England; two daughters, Mrs. Fannie Rawles and Miss Mary Elizabeth Chaplin, of Emporia; one son, John Chaplin, of Richmond; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon and burial was in the Emporia cemetery. Rev. W. F. Marshall of Purdy, assisted by Rev. P. H. Sloan of Emporia, officiated.
