Sam Peters (No-ten-oke) was born in December 28, 1885 to Jim Peters (Pye-pa-ha) and Ka-no-mah at the Meskwaki settlement.

In 1908, he wanted to marry a girl and her parents wouldn't allow it and the girl committed suicide. They presented themselves married, so in documents afterward, he considered himself a widower after that.

This union was with Ha-she-ta-o-sa-qua, daughter of the jeweler, Pem-me-ka-wa and Me-ka-to . She died June 8, 1808 via suicide.

After many years, he married Florence Logan from the Ho-Chunk nation on 8 September 1930, at the Indian Mission in Iowa, he married Florence Logan, daughter of Richard Logan and Mary L. Crow and mother of his son Samuel Logan Peters who was born the previous year.

From this union, he had 5 children. Samuel Logan Peters (Junior) born 27 August 1929, died 13 September 2004, L.D.P. (LIVING), Olivia Mae Peters Kuiper, b. 8 May 1934, d. 6 November 1971, Pauline Peters Campbell, b. 22 March 1936, d. 27 July 2014 and J.P. (LIVING).

Samuel Peters was instrumental in helping the Smithsonian Institution ethnology department understand the culture of the Meskwaki people. He was a translator and translated stories and many other works so that they could be appreciated by a wider audience.

Sam Peters died in 1955.
