Marjorie "Jerry" (Willgoos) Betts, born on Jan. 28, 1918, died on June 3, 2013, at the age of 95. She was the first daughter of Grace and Andrew Willgoos. Her father was one of the founders and chief engineer of Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. She graduated from Connecticut College in 1940 majoring in Home Economics. She taught in the Junior School in West Hartford for several years before marrying A. Raymond Betts Jr. of Simsbury on Aug. 24, 1945. They lived in Granby for the major part of their marriage and they were members of the Granby Tennis Club and other civic organizations. They had one son, Peter Raymond Betts. She had a lively personality, was loved by many, and was particularly fond of nature, animals, flowers, and especially the ocean. She was a member of South Congregational Church in Granby for many years, and volunteered for many positions. She particularly loved singing in the choir and was the first female Deacon and is also a Deacon Emeritus. She was predeceased by her husband and son. She is survived by her sister, Alice Willgoos Ferguson of Denver, CO; a granddaughter, Mariah Betts of Cape Town, South Africa; a grandson, Evan Betts and his wife Amanda of Fairfax, VT; and their mother Deborah Betts of Worcester, VT. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 12 Noon, at the South Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A light reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
