She graduated from Ohio State University with a BA in Psychology and a BA in Education and Masters in Psychology. While at Ohio State she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She had a lifelong love of reading and enjoyed swimming and going on picnics with her family. Betsy was a scholar and a gentlewoman.
She was a longtime member of Central Bible Church in Aurora.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 64 years, Joseph Gerald Gellings, two children, Joseph Gellings of Shawano, WI and Ginny (Jack) Cooney of Wheaton; seven grandchildren, Joseph (Tuan) Gellings, Robyn (Scott) Johnson and John Gellings, Sean, Ryan, Brendan and Shannon Cooney; and three great-grandchildren, Meredith, Maggie and Sander Johnson.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kitty; one brother, Samuel Clark; and her parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 7 from 10 am until the time of a funeral service at 11 am at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd in Wheaton. Interment will be held at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia.
