John McQueen was likely born in Kilmeny Parish on Islay around 1767. He was likely the son of Neil or John McQueen, tenants listed in the Kilmeny area on the Areguirie farm in Islay. He was in his sixties when he died in Barrie in 1833 shortly after arriving in Canada with his extended family of 14 from Islay, Scotland. He was likely buried in what became the former Trinity Anglican cemetery in 1835, in the Worsley-Poyntz-Berczy triangle near the courthouse in Barrie. That cemetery was disestablished in 1947, and four residential houses are now on that site. It is likely his remains are still interred, unmarked, at that location.

John's wife, Mary (McIntyre) McQueen is buried in East Nottawasaga Presbyterian church cemetery, Simcoe county.

Children: Neil B McQueen 1792-1848, Flora (McQueen) McKechnie 1798-1878, Isabella (McQueen) Blair 1800-1888, Donald (1804-?), James McQueen 1810-1889, John McQueen 1812-1890 and Donald B McQueen 1816-1885.
