During the cholera epidemic in 1849 Simon held the office of Overseer of the Poor. All through that period he stood his post, doing more than any other person to alleviate the sufferings and attending to the wants of those stricken with the dreaded disease.

Simon & his first wife, Jane had two sons, John & Hiram. With his second wife he had another son named Symon.
The photos on this memorial are not correct. They belong with the family of Henry Decker who was a brother of Simon-1807-1884. The Simon C(ompton)who is one of these memorials was Henry's son.
