My paternal grandmother. Papa came to the States first and when he had enough money, he sent for Mama.

Mama came over from Italy on the SS Madonna in January 1915. She and Papa were married in March that same year. They eventually settled in Brooklyn, NY and raised 8 children - 7 boys and 1 girl.

Mama was a homemaker and a wonderful cook. She was a simple lady, who dressed in modest plain dresses, her hair up in a bun and sensible shoes on her feet. She only wore a gold wedding band, but wore earrings when she attended family gatherings.

All documents that I have seen with regard to my grandmother (ie: 1940 census) have her name as "Amelia," but for some reason her name is spelled "Emilia" on the headstone.
