Thomas was born in Wilkes County, Georgia to Thomas Howard, Sr. and Lettica "Letty" Durham. He was married to Frances Jackson. Thomas and Frances had 11 children: Moses m. Mary Ann Patrick, William m Anna Arnett, Matilda m. Joseph J.Montgomery, Letty m. John J. Montgomery, Cynthia m. John Phipps, James m. Sarah Lemaster, Henry m. Elizabeth Cottle, Reubin m. Nancy Arnett, Andrew m. Matilda Ray, Elizabeth m. John Risner, and Nancy m. Archibald Risner. Recently his gravestone was discovered by Manton Ray, in an overgrown section of the cemetery, with other Howard family members, which Manton so graciously cleared off. THOMAS WAS MY 3RD GREAT-GRANDFATHER.

There are some who say that Thomas (1770) was married to Polly Patrick, but I don't believe that to be the case. There is no known record for this, not one. I think that there may have been some confusion because the son of Thomas and Frances, Moses Howard married Mary Ann "Polly" Patrick. Furthermore, Thomas and Frances are shown together in the 1850 census, three years before his death. If he were married to a Polly Patrick, they would have been together then. His cenotaph in the Howard Cemetery in Maggard, only lists he, Frances and their children.
