GASTON - Ben E. Carver, 90, of Gaston, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014 at Signature Health Care in Muncie, Indiana following an extended illness.

Ben was born May 1, 1924 in Anderson, Indiana to the late Everett and Mildred Carver. He was a 1942 graduate of Gaston High School.

He went on to serve in the United States Navy aboard the USS Intrepid during WW II. He retired in the 1970's from General Motors and had also farmed throughout his life

Ben was a fifty-six year member of the Gaston United Methodist Church. He was a kind hearted man who enjoyed helping others. He loved being the town handyman. He enjoyed watching football and spending mornings at Mill Street drinking coffee with friends.

Ben is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Kelley (husband, James) of Scottsville, KY, Nila Carver of Fishers, and Trina Gist (husband, Bill) of Loretto, TN; a brother, Maurice Carver (wife, Nancy) of Muncie; a sister, Lavera Smith of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Andy Merrill of Marion, Tricia Finch (husband, Greg) of Matthews, Shine Hiatt (husband, Jody) of Gaston, Sandi Conner (husband, Pat) of Fishers, Dianna Walls-Pyle (husband, David) of Indianapolis, Tam Eggert (husband, Kyle) of Carmel, Billy Cundiff (fiancé, Lisa) of Loretto, TN, and Shelly Page (husband, Ace) of Iron City, TN; thirty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Carver; and a grandson, Timothy Cundiff.

A funeral service to celebrate Ben's life will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 at Gant Funeral Home, Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. Gaston, Indiana with Pastor John Long officiating. Burial of Ben's ashes will be in Thompson Cemetery at a later date with graveside military honors conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 at Gant Funeral Home, Gaston Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Gaston United Methodist Church, 105 N. Main St. Gaston, IN 47342.
