He emigrated to America on May 11, 1903 aboard the ship Calabria, which sailed from Naples Apr 25, 1903. He then went to NY (149 First Ave.)and stayed with his uncle Dionisio (Dennis) Natale) Later, he came to Denver where he opened the Red Front Shoe Shop at 15th & Champa for 40 years. Later, his brother Jim would join him. Joe was an excellent shoe maker. He could make a leather shoe from scratch.
He met his love, Clara Long and they married Apr. 30, 1911.
They had 4 children together. They made their home in the "Little Italy" area of Denver, next door to his brother, Jim. They lived there for 35 years.
Joe was a quiet, unassuming man with a wonderful attitude towards life. His saying "don't worry--10 years from now you'll never know the difference." He passed away in 1968 at age 86.
