Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Monday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 East Main Street, Zanesville with Fr. Martin J. Ralko as Celebrant.

Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Jerome Frederick "Fred" Baker, age 89, of Zanesville, died 12:20 AM, Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Beckett House at New Concord. He was born Saturday, August 15, 1925 in Zanesville, the son of George N. Baker and Agnes A. (Burkhart) Baker. He married Mary Ann (Hemmer) Baker on Saturday, June 10, 1950 and was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.Fred was employed with Line Material/ McGraw Edison and retired as Maintenance Engineer with Bishop Rosecrans High School following many years of service. He was an avid Bishop Rosecrans supporter who faithfully attended school sporting events. Fred was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and greatly enjoyed watching the games with his family and friends at the Becket House. He loved to play golf and had a great short game. Fred loved to study history and was very knowledgeable about history in general and the English Monarchy in particular. He especially enjoyed visiting the battlefields of America with his family. He had a fascination and love for the American West and enjoyed books and shows on the subject. Fred was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed meeting people and never met a stranger. The family would like to thank the staff of the Becket House for the care he received. He truly thought of the staff as his extended family.Fred is survived by his wife: Mary Ann Baker; two daughters: Kathy (Doug) Edwards of West Chester, and Mary Baker of Nashport; six sons: John (Alice) Baker and Joe (Sandy) Baker both of Nashport, Jim (Robin) Baker, Mark Baker and Paul (Lori) Baker all of Zanesville and Mike (Linda) Baker of Duncan Falls; 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters: Jane (Chuck) Durant of Zanesville and Mary Margaret "Tip" Kempf.In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by five brothers: Joe Baker, Bernard "Booge" Baker, Herb Baker, Dave Baker and John "Bunk" Baker; and two sisters, Beatrice Baker and Bernice "Bernie" Bee.Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, December 14, 2014 at The Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville where a Christian Vigil will be held with the Rosary being prayed at 7:45 PM.
