Gjermond Kittleson immigrated to America from Telemark, Norway, with his mother and sisters when he was 12 years old. They lived in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota until 1879 when he moved to Walsh County, North Dakota. He married Karrie Gregorson in 1881.

After their marriage the Kittlesons built a log house on their farm, which consisted of a quarter of land one mile east of Hoople, North Dakota. Like their other neighbors, the Kittlesons had an abundance of fruit in the woods along the river which they made into sauces and jellies. With true pioneer spirit they encouraged neighbors, who lived on the barren prairie, to pick all they wanted and to transplant fruit trees and bushes onto their own land.

Karrie and Gjermond had ten children - Charles, Sam, John, George, Edwin, Oscar, Arthur, Minnie, Julia and Emma. Emma died at an early age and is buried in Zion Cemetery of Hoople. Several of the Kittleson sons moved to Montana to farm and convinced their father, youngest brother and sister to sell their farm and move west as well.

Gjermond was my great grandfather- Minnie Kittleson Malmin was my grandmother.
