Christina Petersen (Anne Kirstine Jensen) Obituary
Box Elder News, January 12, 1917, p. 1
Aged Woman Passes On
"Wednesday evening at 9:30 o’clock Mrs. Christina Petersen of the Second Ward passed on to her rest. The aged lady had been ill for a number of days and the end was not altogether unexpected.
"Mrs. Petersen was born in Denmark on December 29, 1830 and came to this country many years ago. She had two daughters, one of whom, Mrs. Thomas Crompton, survives her. The other daughter was the deceased wife of Peter Knudson. There are a number of grandchildren and also some great grandchildren.
"Mrs. Petersen came to this land for conscience sake and was a sturdy character, true to her convictions and ever showed her interest in the welfare of the church to which she belonged. Because of her advanced age she has been in an enfeebled condition for a number of years. Funeral will be held in the Second ward chapel on Saturday at 2 o’clock."

Biographical Sketch of Christena Petersen (Anne Kirstine Jensen)
Christena Jensen Petersen was born Anne Kirstine Jensen, 29 December 1830 in Kavslunde, Odense, Denmark, the daughter of Jens Jørgen Frederiksen and Kirstine Jensdatter. She came to Kobenhavn as a young woman, likely in search of employment. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the fall of 1855. Three years later, she married another member of the Kobenhavn Branch, Peder Hansen, later known as Peter Hansen Petersen or Peter Hans Petersen. She brought a four-year-old son, Niels Fritz Jensen or Hansen, to the marriage. According to records maintained by her granddaughter, Villadene Knudson Banks, she had another son, Hans Soren Jorgensen, but nothing more is known of him at present. Together Peter and Christena had at least five more children: Lawrence, born in 1859, who lived only three days; Willardine (named for Willard Richards and known later as Dena Knudson) was born in 1861; Ane Sophie Kirstine (Anna Hansen Crompton) was born in 1864; Charles, born in 1867, died before his fourth birthday; and their last known child, Jesse Vilhelm, was born in 1870 and lived only 10 weeks. She knew a lot of sorrow in the loss of so many children. Nevertheless, Peter and Christena were mainstays of the Kobenhavn Branch for a good 15 years before emigrating. They crossed the Atlantic aboard the “Minnesota” in September 1872 with their two surviving daughters. (Fritz remained in Denmark where he died in 1889.) They settled in Brigham City where they were eventually joined by Peter’s mother, Ane Sophie Knudsen, possibly after the death of his father, Hans Pedersen, in 1973. Christena continued to live in Brigham City where she is found in the 1900 U.S. Census, district 202, as Christina Petersen, age 60, b. Dec 1830, seven children, one living. Lived in U.S. 29 years, literate, speaks English. Lives with Annie Crompton, next to Peter Knudson. She died in January 1917, having outlived her husband and all but one of her children.
