Mary Elizabeth Fisher, 91, of Logansport, passed away at 10:16 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014 in the Woodbridge Health Campus.

As a young girl, she was a helping hand to her mother, a devoted music student, a percussionist in band and a 4-H member, showing sheep. In 1941, she graduated from Royal Center High School. Mary was an accomplished pianist and violist, teaching piano and violin lessons to several area students. During WWII, Mary worked as a secretary at Logan Machine. It was during this time that Mary often stayed with her "Aunt Me," who owned a beauty shop above the former McCloskey funeral parlor. Aunt Me introduced her to John W. Fisher as she knew he would be a perfect match for her niece. The couple fell in love and courted long-distance while John attended the Indiana Institute of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis.

On April 20, 1945, in Royal Center, Mary and John were married. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Patricia Ann Fisher, who survives in Monticello and John David, who preceded in death April 8, 2009. After 67 years of marriage, her husband John preceded her in death on December 15, 2012.

In 1950, John's parents, Fred and Margaret Fisher, found the perfect home to convert into a funeral chapel. It was located on the corner of Front and West Market Streets in Logansport. On Aug. 19, 1950, the young couple held an open house establishing Fisher Funeral Chapel in the Loganland community. Mary assisted her husband as pianist, organist, lady attendant, secretary and beautician…wearing the many hats of a funeral director's wife. The couple also owned the county's largest ambulance fleet from 1950-1976. Starting a business from the ground up required much sacrifice and dedication. Following Mary & John's semi-retirement, the couple watched the family business continue to grow into the second generation with a new chapel on Chase Road and then the third generation with a chapel in Lafayette. In 2009, she was recognized by the Indiana Funeral Directors Association for sixty years in the funeral business.

Mary's faith was a very important part of her life. She was a devoted member of the Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church where she played the organ for more than forty years.

She loved her community and enjoyed giving back both in gifts of her time as a volunteer and her philanthropy to noble causes.

Mary and John enjoyed traveling on many fun vacations over the years. She loved to entertain, take walks in the woods with her grandchildren and play the organ. Her house was spotless and she would never let you leave hungry.

Also surviving are her daughter-in-law, Dawn Fisher; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six brothers, Dick (Doris) Kesling, Irvin (Bea) Kesling, Estell (Mary) Kesling, Norman (Mary Lou) Kesling and Willis Kesling and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Mary was also preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel Fisher in 1988.
