He was raised on the family farm southwest of Ness City, Kansas. He completed grade school at the Manteno School in southwest Ness County, and graduated from Ness City High School. Pete proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953.
He was a member of Ness City United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 152 and Ransom VFW Post 7972.
Pete married Grace N. Tuttle February 12,1956 in Jetmore,Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include: their three daughters, Jan(Jake) Rider of Ness CIty, Pat Schlegel(A.J.Bosco) of New York City, Jo(Neil) Pfannenstiel of Ness City; five grandsons, Tyler Rider, Tanner Rider, Trevor Pfannenstiel, Brodie Pfannenstiel, Tim Bosco; two granddaughters, Kendra Pfannenstiel and Anna Bosco; and seven gret-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ben, Leo, Roy, Walter; three sisters, Rosa Litzenberger, Clara Schlegel, Viola Felzien; and three other siblings who died very young. Pete loved his family, the smell of fresh tilled soil and a good steak.
