James "Dean" Henderson, Jr. passed away peacefully at Northwest Hospital surrounded by family.

Born to James and Leonice Henderson, his childhood years were spent in Seattle and Chula Vista, California. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1939, excelled as a quarterback for the University of Washington, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943. He married Muriel Capp on May 21, 1943. The couple's war years were spent in Barstow, California. Upon their return, they raised their family on Queen Anne Hill, and spent glorious summers in Indianola.

Mr. Henderson's career was dedicated to the fire equipment industry. He and Muriel retired to Whidbey Island in 1987, and later at Cristwood Retirement Center in 2003. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Seattle, was past president of the Indianola Beach Improvement Club, a member of the United Methodist Church in Langley, member of Uselass Bay Golf and Country Club, and was a member of the Queen Anne Lodge #242.

According to family, Mr. Henderson's personality put others at ease. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Muriel; sons Jim (Char) of Freeland, John (Sally) of Oostburf, Wisconsin, and Jeff (Joan) of Indianola; daughter, Julie (Steve) Stein of Fremont, California; brother, David of Edmonds; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
