Born January 26, 1900 in Elbon (Elk County) , he was the son of Joel A. Berkey and Elsie Mae Litzenbigler. He was first married to Minnie Barr; she preceded him in death. He later was married to Florence Shaw, she survives.
A retired coal miner, he was a member of the Free Methodist Church.
In addition to his second wife, surviving are two sons, Lloyd Berkey of Brockport and Clayton Berkey of San Antonio, Texas: three sisters, Genevieve Anderson of Brockport, Mrs. Myrtle Holt of Brockway, and Mrs Elsie Serafini of DuBois; six grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two children, one brother, and one sister.
