Friends of Peden J. Sabin, of East Syracuse, formerly of this place, will be pained to learn that he was almost instantly killed on Saturday, Oct. 28th while coupling cars at Gardensville near Buffalo.
Peden J. Sabin was the youngest son of the late Collins and Sarah Stone Sabin and was born in Turin March 1, 1863. When about 28 years of age, he went to East Syracuse, where he was employed as brakeman on a freight train on the western division of the New York Central. Later he was appointed conductor, and was considered one of the most faithful employees on the road.
On April 12, 1893. he married Mrs. Nellie A. (Lamson)Fairchild. Four children were born to them, one of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Sabin passed away on June 22. 1906. Mr. Sabin was devoted to his home and children.
He was a member of Onondaga Lodge. No. 802, F. and A M.; Central Division, No. 43. O. R. C. Sherman Lodge, No. 143. B. of R. -T. East Syracuse Tent. K. O. T. M. He is survived by three children, Fred, Bessie and Doris Sabin, all of East Syracuse and one step-daughter, Mrs. Clarence Backenstross, also of East Syracuse, and the following brothers and sister: G. N. Sabin, of Troy, Idaho; P...N. Sabin, of Oneida; Eli Sabin and a twin sister, Mrs G F. Cook, of Turin.
The funeral was largely attended from the First Presbyterian church at East Syracuse on Tuesday. Interment was made at Woodlawn cemetery.
