Josiah Francis, a well known farmer of Lamar County, died at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon at his home 2 1/2 miles northeast of the city. He had been in failing health two or three years.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon and the interment will be at Providence Cemetery.
He was 76 years old and was born in Tennessee, but came to Lamar county when a very small boy with his father, who settled on Reed Prairie, and lived all of his life within a short distance of where his parents located. He was a successful farmer, and left two or three farms and other property.
He is survived by an unmarried son, Ed Francis, who was making his home with him, and by two granddaughters, Mrs. Polly Garner and Miss Thelma Gill. The latter was making her home with him.
He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. M. V. Saylors of Paris and Mrs. Sarah Nixon of Oklahoma.
