Margie Ruth Welch, age 85, of Elk City, Kansas died Saturday, January 3, 2015 at her home in Elk City, Kansas.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the West Liberty Cemetery near Hale, Kansas with the Reverend Gene Benefield officiating under the direction of the Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory in Independence, Kansas.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2015 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory.

The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Webb & Rodrick Chapel & Crematory.

Margie Ruth Welch was born August 1, 1929 in Manhattan, Kansas to Herbert and Emma (Brand) Greenburg. She grew up in Hale and Longton, Kansas and attended country schools. After school Margie worked as a beautician.

On June 22, 1946 Margie married Curtis Welch in Independence, Kansas. The couple made their home in Elk City, Kansas. Curtis preceded her in death on March 22, 2008. Margie worked for Electra, ACC and Emerson where she retired. She also worked at the Corps of Engineers for Davis Contracting. She was a member of the VFW ladies auxiliary, Eastern Star, Monday Night ladies bowling league in Cherryvale, Kansas and was on the Elk City City Council over the water department.

Survivors include five daughters, Vickie Newman of Independence, Janie Winkleman and husband Terry of Independence, Ruenae Fowler and husband Patrick of Elk City, Roseann Fischer Welch of Elk City and Holly McElwain and husband Johnnie of Elk City; one brother Herbert Greenburg of Spokane, Washington; two sisters Joan Newkirk and Stella Leathers both of Elk City; brother in laws Jerry Welch of Elk City and Kyle Welch of Independence; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Steven Welch, sister Rosalee McDonald and two brothers Noel Greenburg and Jim Greenburg.
