Mr. Ritten was born in Belle Plaine, Minn., Jan. 26, 1870, the son of Joseph and Krucinda Ritten. When he was eight months old the family came to Belle River township in Douglas county and here he attended school and was a life long member of the St. Nicholas church. He was united in marriage to Tracy Schlosser Feb. 18, 1896, and they lived in Alexandria for a short time before they moved to the farm in Carlos townshp. This has been his home until the last nine years when they moved to Carlos village. Mr. Ritten served as a member of the town board, school board, creamery board, church board and also as manager of the Carlos shipping association. Surviving are his wife, and six children: Michael of Carlos; William of Millerville; (Selma), Mrs. P. L. Botzet of Carlos; Louis of Hillsboro, N.D.; Henry of Carlos; (Helena) Mrs Ralph Schultz of Osakis; and a brother, Pete Ritten of Alberta, Canada; two sisters, Mrs. Cliff Moore of Devils Lake, N.D.; and Mrs. William Corey of Fargo, N.D.; and a half brother, Joe Ritten of Carlos. Twenty-five grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Two brothers and six sisters have preceded him in death.
