GREENSBORO - Mrs. Geraldine "Gerry" Smith Alston, 77, of Greensboro, passed away Friday, January 25, 2008, at Adams Farm Living and Rehab in Jamestown.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, in the Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Alston was second of four children born in Harnett County, N.C., to the late John Alexander Smith and Ina Parker Smith. She moved to Greensboro in the early 1950's. Mrs. Alston was a bookkeeper and clerical employee for several local businesses during her working career, including the old Liberty Meat Market, Davidson Supply Company, and the U.S. Postal Service Bulk Mail Center.

An accomplished seamstress and dollmaker, Gerry was active for many years with the The Crafters and the Winston-Salem Craft Guild. She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Alston was the widow of the late Joe Kent Alston, who passed away in 1982. One son, John Calvin "Buddy" Alston, predeceased her in 2002.

She is survived by sons, Richard Alan Alston, of Tampa, Fla., Donald Keith Alston and wife, Patricia of Jamestown, N.C., Robert Michael Alston and wife, AnnMarie of Asheboro, N.C.; and daughters, Carol Leonard, of Roanoke, Va., and Theresa Masten of Oak Ridge, N.C. Mrs. Alston is survived also by sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Davis, of Winston Salem, N.C., Mrs. Ann Langdon of Erwin, N.C.; and a brother, Mr. James M. Smith of Erwin, N.C.; 15 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
