George Hetzler was born May 24, 1880 to the young parents of George Hetzler (b 1860), and Margaret Wernefielder ((b. 1862). The new family lived at his mother's aunt and uncle's residence, the residence of Bernard Anthony Poppink (Memorial ID: 41283774) and Elizabeth Wernefielder Poppink. Bernard Poppink was an immigrant and his trade was a house painter.


George Hetzler, an infant, lost his parents to sickness and, possibly, the Civil War. His father George, son of George Anthony Maria Nold Hetzler, died young in 1882. His mother Margaret Wernefielder b. 1862, daughter of David and Susan Smith Wernefielder, died the next year 1883.


The 1900 census reports find George Hetzler b. 1880 now age20, living with the Poppink family, who adopted and raised him. The Poppinks had a full household and George had many step brothers and sisters.

George Hetzler registered for the Draft of WW I September 1918. It is not known if he served. The 1930 census reports list George Hetzler as a resident of the tuberculosis Sanitarium in Monroe County, George Hetzler died at age 55 and buried November 13th in 1935 at Mt Hope Cemetery. The burial registry shows his residence was at the Sanitarium. His burial location is W(?rst) 1/2 179 B.B. A news article of his death has not been located.
