Magdalena Erck, 93, of Devils Lake formerly of Esmond died Wednesday January 14, 2015 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday January 19 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond, ND.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with prayer services at 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Magdalena was born November 4, 1921 on the family farm near Selz, ND to Frank and Catherine (Hager) Gisi. She grew up and attended rural school northwest of Selz. She married Daniel Erck on July 10, 1942 in Selz. They lived on the Erck family farm south of Esmond before moving into Esmond. They later moved to a farm south of the Isabel School in Benson County. She moved into Esmond shortly after her husband’s death on September 21, 1968. Magdalena was the cook at the Esmond Public School from 1968 to 1982. She moved to Devils Lake in 2001.

Magdalena attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devils Lake and was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond.

Magdalena enjoyed living in the country and raised a very large garden. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and solitaire. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren playing marbles and rummy.

Magdalena is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Leona Erck of Devils Lake; six daughters, Dorothy and son-in-law, David Schlenkert of Sebring, FL, Elaine Erck of Howell, MI, Carol and son-in-law, Tim Finley of Oberon, ND, Mary Lou Erck and son-in-law Orlin Finneseth of Fargo, ND, Becky and son-in-law, Les Dockter of Stanton, ND, Jacqueline Erck of Devils Lake, 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Seibel of Lincoln, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four baby sons, three brothers, Frank, Jack and Mike Gisi.
