Nettleton – Dogama Earlene “Barber” Franks, 65, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on April 11, 1949, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late William Ralph and Tennie Agnes Boozer Barber.
Dogama graduated from Nettleton High School and she married the love of her life, Jerry Franks. She worked as a nurse at both NMMC and the Women’s Center in Tupelo. She was passionate about her nursing career and really wanted a cure to be discovered for cancer. The most important things in her life were God and her family. She was a member of Enon Primitive Baptist Church and she enjoyed gospel music tremendously. Dogama loved baking, shopping, and just spending time with her family. She also liked talking for hours with her close friends Alice Vassar and Sheila Gann. After retirement, she continued to serve the public by volunteering at the Evergreen/Carolina Fire Department.
Survivors include her husband Jerry A. Franks, Nettleton; daughters, June Carter (Brent), Nettleton; sons, Donnie Franks (Sandra), Smithville, Tony Franks, Madison, Al, and Jerry Lynn Franks, Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Dalton Sawyer, Madalyn and Brenden Carter; Stephanie Watson (Sanders); Brittany Franks(AJ); Aiden, Corben, and Riddick Franks; Tage Hadaway; Britney Carter, Scotty Carter, and Zack Hannigan; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends Patrick and Melanie Hannigan, Will Avant, Tina and Isaiah, and “Dude”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Barber, and a granddaughter, Tiffany Diane Franks.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, January 18, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Elder Bobby Willis and Elder Harold Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in New Chapel Cemetery, Nettleton. Pallbearers will be Tony Franks, Allen Adams, Ricky Franks, Scotty Carter, Shad lamb, and Justin Lamb. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Wiygul, Alvin Small Jr., Chad Franks, Dale Petty, and Jerry Brewer.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
