NETTLETON - William Ralph Barber, 85, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at the North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Itawamba County to Ozie Sampson and Mary Auda Raden Barber. He had lived in Amory and in the Carolina community for the past 60 years. He married Agnes Boozer on Oct. 8, 1939, she preDeceased him July 1995. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in the European Theatre. He was a retired supervisor of the pressing department employed by Amory Garment Company for 37 years. He was a very active member of Enon Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was an avid fisherman, loved gardening, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he loved fellowship with people, family, friends and church members.


Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Elder Bobby Willis, Elder Harold Hunt and Elder Wendell Rhinehart officiating. Burial will be in the New Chapel Cemetery,Evergreen, Itawamba Co.,MS.


Survivors include his daughter, Dogama Franks and her husband, Jerry, of Nettleton; three sisters, Charline Moody of Rosemead, Calif., Wilma Johnson of Fulton, and Ruth Staten of Georgia; five grandchildren, June Carter and husband, Brent, of Nettleton, Donnie Franks and fiancZe, Sandra Wise of Hatley, Tony Franks and wife, Holly, of Madison, Ala., Jerry Lynn Franks of Chicago, Ill., and Laveta Boben and husband, Eric, of Nettleton; 15 great-grandchildren, Britney Carter, Dalton Sawyer, Madalyn Carter, Brenden Carter, Stephanie Franks, Brittany Franks, Tiffany Franks, Christian Franks, Ethan Franks, Aiden Franks, Mishayla Boben, Chance Boben, Kaylana Boben, Scotty Carter and Tage Hadaway.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant daughter, Martha Carolyn Barber; and two brothers, Horace and Charles Barber.


Pallbearers will be Pat Gilmore, Bill Johnson, Anderson Ritter, Jimmy Wiygul, Eric Boben, Dale Petty and Mike Barber. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren.


Memorials may be made to the American Cancer society c/o Beth May, P.O. Box 269, Amory, Monroe Co.., MS 38821.


Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and will continue until service time on Monday
