She was born in Au Sable Forks on March 9, 1915, the daughter of Samuel and Nellie Bissell Bailey.
She graduated from Au Sable Forks high school in 1932.
Mrs. Sorrell was a member of the Indole Golf Club and local bowling leagues for many years and attended many local and regional tournaments. Among her former employers were the Town of Black Brook, J. & J. Rogers Co., Prudential Insurance Co. and restaurant owers Ira Torrance and Max Lehmann.
She was survived by her husband, Walter J. Sorrell of Au Sable Forks, to whom she was married Nov. 3, 1938, in Holy Name Church chapel by the Rev. O'Neill in the first marriage ceremony he performed. She was also survived by a daughter, Nancy Quimby of Maryland; a son, James Sorrell of Dannemora, New York; two granddaughters, Jacqueline Wilhelm and Bevin Hickey, both of Maryland; one great-grandson; several nieces and nephews; and two lifelong friends, John Richards of Au Sable Forks and Barbara Snow of Au Sable Forks.
Family members who died earlier included three brothers, Harold Bailey of Keeseville, Gene Bailey of Canaan, and Ralph Bailey of Schuyler Falls.
There were no calling hours. A church service was conducted at the Au Sable Forks United Methodist Church, Tuesday, September 5, 1995, at 2 p.m. Burial was in Holy Name Cemetery in Au Sable Forks.
