She was one of ten children born to Joel and Nancy Beam Smith. Her siblings were:

I have not found Sarah's husband Charles W. past a newspaper article about him visiting his sister in 1907. He was a Librarian for The Wells Fargo Express Company and lived in Normal Park, Illinois.
