Colbern Edward Linkous, age 88 of Dublin passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009. Born September 13, 1920 in Montgomery County he was the son of the late David Edward & Winnie Linkous. His wife of 67 years, Radie Geneva Linkous, three brothers Elmer, Clifford and Albert "Bud" Linkous, and daughter-in-law Connie E. Linkous also preceded him in death. He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry and served during World War II in the United States Army as a private in the 134th Infantry – 35th Division and 204th AAA in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was wounded in duty and received a Purple Heart. He was an amateur radio club member as W4FLE and with MARS A4FLE for approximately 60 years. He also was a meat cutter for over 40 years for various local stores. He also was on the Dublin Town Council where he served one term. Surviving are a son Donald E. Linkous, Radford; daughter and son-in-law Brenda L & Emory Smith, Dublin; grandchildren & spouse Michael & Shannon Linkous, Radford; Michelle Linkous, Radford; great granddaughter Hailey Linkous, Radford; brother and sister-in-law Weldon & Margie Linkous, Bassett, Va., sister and brothers-in-law Frances & John Cupp, Blacksburg, Va., Shirley & Tenny Howard, Riner, Va., and Nellie & Johnnie Overstreet, Floyd, Va. Special thanks from the family go to the Carilion Hospice, Dr. William Mayo, Dr. Wyne and Katherine Hilliard for their care.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Bower Funeral Home, Dublin with the Rev. David Hoover officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Dublin Cemetery, where the V.F.W. Post #1184 will conduct full military honors. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Bower Funeral Home, Dublin.
