Delores H. Wriedt, age 90, of Kiel, died Monday morning, January 26, 2015 at Homestead Care Center, New Holstein. She was the former Delores H. Maurer, born July 9, 1924 in the Town of Schleswig, daughter of the late Albert & Aroma (Henning) Maurer. Delores was a 1942 graduate of Kiel High School. On May 13, 1944 she was united in marriage to Vernon E. Wriedt at St. Peter UCC, Kiel. Delores and Vernon were especially grateful to be able to share their love for so many years, having celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary earlier in 2014. Vernon preceded her in death on December 26, 2014. The couple lived and worked on the Maurer family farm for 2 1/2 years before moving to Kiel. Delores worked for Clara Oesau at Riverside Grocery, Kiel for 13 1/2 years and the Red Owl in Kiel for 7 1/2 years. She also worked as a crossing guard for the City of Kiel for 7 1/2 years and was beloved by all the kids & parents she met. Delores talked fondly of the years she worked for the city. She retired in 1987. She enjoyed embroidery, keeping a nice home for her family and playing cards with their many friends. Delores and Vernon especially loved to dance and would spend many Saturdays and Sundays at Steinthal, Cedar Lake and Brooklyn Bar dancing together and with friends, They also loved to travel, mostly throughout the US, especially, Florida. They also enjoyed their Sunday drives to Madison to visit Roger and his family and would always make sure to stop at their favorite spots for dinner along the way. Delores's faith, family and friends were very important to her and she made sure to take time for all. Delores was a member of St. Peter UCC, Kiel. Survivors include two sons; Roger (Nancy) Wriedt of Madison, Don (Georgia) Wriedt of Kiel, her grandchildren; Kevin Wriedt of Louisville KY, Christine (Mark) Brown of Kiel, Rick (Becky) Wriedt, Paula (Jim) Roberts, both of Oregon WI., six great grandchildren, one sister, Janelle Wagner, two sisters-in-law, Carol Meiselwitz, Jeanette Wriedt, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lester Maurer, two sisters, Luella (Truman) Rabe, Arlene (Clarence) Ninmer, three brothers-in-law, Albin Wagner Jr., Walter Meiselwitz, Myron Wriedt and nephews Brian Wriedt and Dennis Meiselwitz. Funeral services for Delores will be held at 12:00 pm (Noon) on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at St. Peter UCC, 424 Fremont St., Kiel with Dan Krueger, Licensed Lay Minister officiating. Burial will take place in the Kiel City Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Delores's family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Homestead Care Center and Hospice Advantage. Their care and compassion shown to Delores was greatly appreciated.
