Godbout theorized that Jean Mallet was the father of Pierre Mallet, and, in turn, the grandfather of Perrine Mallet, wife of Marin Boucher and early Québec settler, based on an alleged 1615 burial record at Saint-Lomer in Courgeoust, and the fact that Pierre's family were the only other Mallets living there.

Jetté similarly listed him in his list of Perrine's ancestors, but alleged the burial was in Courgeon, a municipality about 12 km to the southeast, in the same department. Unfortunately, the departmental archives shows no parish registers for either municipality prior to 1619, leaving current researchers unable to directly verify this claim. However, Godbout also notes that his alleged son Pierre appeared in a notarial act before Leblond on 3 December 1610, at which time he had lived in Launay, in the parish of Courgeoust.* As the current cadastre only shows Courgeoût having a lieu-dit of Launay or variant, Godbout's identification of the municipality is likely correct.

None of the sources below identify any spouse for Jean, or mother for Pierre. (This person was previously linked to both in Find A Grave.)

* Note: The current spelling of this municipality is Courgeoût.
