HOUSTON — Ida Lavigne Goldhirsh passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Ida was born February 24, 1924 to Louis Lavigne and Rose Blitz Lavigne, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ida graduated high school in New Orleans. Following her graduation, Ida went to work for the U.S. Navy.

In 1944, Ida married the love of her life and soul-mate, Capt. Dr. Simon Goldhirsh, in Ft. Louis, Washington. After the marriage, Ida moved to Galveston with her in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. David Goldhirsh. Ida remained in Galveston until Hurricane Ike in 2008, when she moved to Houston. She resided at The Village at Tanglewood in Houston until her death.

Ida was a member of Temple B’nai Israel where she was a member of the Temple’s Sisterhood. She was also, a life member of Hadassah, a Girl Scout Leader, and a volunteer at UTMB. Ida also helped her husband with his island dental practice.

Ida loved to travel and became quite a cruise enthusiast. She traveled many times with Betty Moore and her group of friends. Ida never knew a stranger and would strike up a conversation with cashiers and customers alike. You may have, unknowingly, had a conversation with her.

She is survived by her son Robert and wife Ellen of Galveston; and daughter Rikke of Houston; sister Gilda and husband Dr. Willie Sachs of Hollywood, Florida.
