Alice Henderson was married twice:
1. David F. Abell, Aug. 3, 1887, Bartholomew Co., Indiana
2. John Hand, March 23, 1896, Marion Co., Indiana

In November, 1906, Alice received an inheritance, $480, through the estate of her first husband, David Abell. Abell had no assets at the time of his death in 1895, but was later determined to be heir to part of his relative's estate. Alice was then residing in Indianapolis, and soon after receiving this legacy, she went to visit her brother, Edward Henderson; but fell into the Central Canal not far from his home at 213 N. West St. The brother actually witnessed the fall, and tried unsuccessfully to rescue her, even before he understood the victim was his sister.
