In 1920 she and her parents and five siblings lived on a farm they were renting in Perry Township, Lawrence County, PA. Also living with them were two of her cousins: John N Barker, age 14, and Carmont W Barker, age 11. John worked on the farm.

In 1930 she and her parents and five siblings lived on a farm in Slippery Rock Township in the same county. They owned their home, and they did have a radio.

In 1940 she and her first husband, Robert W Johns, age 25, and their two children lived in a house they owned in Slippery Rock Township. Their home was valued at $2500. He worked as a laborer in a pottery, with an income in 1939 of $1100 for 52 weeks of work.

In 1950 she and Robert and their three children lived on a farm on a dirt road between County Line and Frew Mill Roads in the same township. Robert also worked as a kiln placer in a dish factory.
