Daughter of Andrew Jackson Carter and Susan Amanda Bradley. Her given name was Jessie Mae, however, she legally changed it to Mamie Mae when she was 15.
Her first marriage was to a mail carrier, Clarence Hamrick, he died of the flu before their son Clarence Jr was born. Her 2nd marriage was to Samuel Hetherington who was widowed and had eight children. Mamie and Samuel had one son who died soon after he was born, and two daughters; Margaret and Mary. Together, they raised 11 children.
After Samuel died, Mamie moved to Houston. She was a good cook and made the best rolls ever. She often sewed quilts with her sisters and friends. Her final years were spent in Yoakum, Texas. She was 92 years old when she went to be with the Lord.
