(Dr.)Milton was born to Wesley Short and his wife, Rebecca Owens. He married Mary Tate on January 8, 1829 near Tateville, Kentucky. They later moved up to Lawrence Co., Indiana where many of his relatives were living by this time, and he set up a family practice in Springville. Later, their son Wesley, ll, also became a physician and joined his dad in his practice. He also is buried in the Christian Cemetery, close to his parents. He was a surgeon in the Civil War.

Milton was a spiritual man, and also preached from time to time. He was well loved and respected by his family and the community.
