John was born in Ireland in 1831 and came to America in 1862. He settled in Hancock where he worked for Calumet &Hecla Mining Company.
In 1867 he married Miss Ellen Lee who was also from Ireland.
Ellen preceded John in death 11years earlier. He is survived by four sons and two daughters.
At the time of his death on 1-10-1929, John was the oldest living resident of Delta County at age 97.
