Generally considered to be the first settler in Knox County 1833. James Fresh married Margaret Davis in Baltimore Maryland May 18, 1809. James Fresh is listed in "The British Invasion of Maryland" by William Marine among 50,000. A private in Captain Ducker's Rgt in the Maryland Militia War of 1812 in Baltimore County.
First moved from Maryland to Marion County Missouri.
Built Fresh's Mill on the South Fabius River in what became Knox County in 1834 which powered a lumber sawmill and a grist mill.

To son John H. Fresh 320 acres with improvements including the mill property.
To son Stephen D. Fresh who died September 1, 1895 in Fresno California, 280 acres...
