William died at Metro General Hospital, Nashville, TN. From Black Lung complications and surgery performed due to his coal mining.

His brother in law, Buddy Crawford Thurman brought him to Nashville , Metro Nashville Hospital for Medical Care. Sadly, William passed away in Nashville Davidson County Tennessee. Buddy did not tell his wife Fannie at the time since she was expecting her third child. Buddy decided to have William buried in Nashville. After the death of William, Fannie gave birth to a daughter, Margie.
