Mose Matthews, 85, well known Perry Twp., farmer died at 1 AM Sunday, Dec. 31, 1950, at his home near Brock, Spraggs RD 1. He had been in poor health for some time and seriously ill for three weeks.
Born Oct. 19, 1865, at Core, W. Va., he was a son of the late William and Mary Ellen Rice Matthews and spent most of his life in Perry Twp. Where he followed farming. In recent years he resided on the D. L. Headlee farm. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Mt. Morris.
On July 25, 1896, he married Mary Howard.
Besides his wife he leaves three sons, Clarence Matthews of Cassville, W.Va., and Harry Matthews of Mt. Morris; and William Matthews, one daughter, Mrs. Frank McCormick of Mt. Morris RD; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Zonie Parry of Fairview, W. Va. One daughter is deceased.

Clarence Matthews 76, of Core, died on Saturday at the WVU Hospital. He was born July 20, 1900 at Core, the son of the late Mose (Moses) and Mary Howard Matthews. He was affiliated with the Fox Chapel Church. Survivors include his wife, Bernice, five sons, Clarence Leroy Matthews of Moundsville, WV. Robert Lee Matthews of Plainville, Illinois, Donald Lee Matthews of Galatia, Illinois, Kenneth Matthews of Core, two daughters, Mrs. Martha Phillips of Benton, Kentucky and Mrs. Mary E. Yoney of Bobtown, 15 grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, William Matthews of El Monte, California and Harry Matthews of Waynesburg, Pa, one sister Mrs. Lucy McCormick of Waynesburg. One sister preceded him in death. Friends are being received at the Owen Funeral Home in Blacksville, where services will be held on Tuesday at 1 P.M. with the Rev. Robert Fox officiating. Burial will following in the Dolls Run Cemetery, Core, WV.
