In the 1850s the family lived on the Nemaha Half-Breed Reservation of Nebraska. In the early 1870s the family moved to the Yankton Indian Reservation in Dakota Territory. In the late 1880s Margaret and her daughters moved to the Rosebud Indian Reservation while her two sons moved to the Lower Brule Indian Reservation.
