Essie Camps
Essie Camps of Gainesville died Feb. 28 at his home. He was 84.
Born in Jonesville, Mr. Camps lived there for many years before moving to Gainesville 50 years ago. He was a semi-retired landscaper. He was a member of Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church of Gainesville, where he chaired the Deacon Board and was president of Choir No. 2 and a ward leader at the church, and he organized the church prayer band.
Mr. Camps was also a member of several fraternal organizations. He was a member and treasurer of Meredian Grand Lodge and Prince Hall No. 1 of Gainesville. He was a member of Grand Joshua Heroines of Jericho and the Carter Chapter of the Royal Arch No. 1. He held and Eastern Star degree.
Survivors include three daughters, Jessie McKnight, Janie Sanford and Pearl Sanders, all of Gainesville; three sons, Joseph Camps and Walter Camps, both of Gainesville, and John C. Camps of Orlando; two sisters, Lelia M. Morse of Gainesville and Hester Robinson of Archer; 43 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Notice Posted in the Gainesville Sun Mar 8, 1990:
CAMPS, DEACON ESSIE - Funeral services for Deacon Camps, Landscaper Camps Lawnservice, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 1990, in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev TA Wright and the Rev JR Swilley conducting the serviced. Burial will follow in the Patrick Memorial Garden, Newnans Lake Church of God by Faith Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the CHESTNUT FUNERAL HOME, 18 NW 8th Avenuem Gainesville.
Deacon Camps, who lived at [omitted], died on February 28, 1990. Mr. Camps will repose in the Chestnut Memorial Chapel on Friday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Special Services in his memory will begin at 7 p.m. followed by Masonic Rites at 8:30 p.m. Deacon Camps will repose in the Mt. Carmel Church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. Family and friends are asked to meet at the home of his daughter & son-in-law Pearl and Willie Sanders [omitted] at 10:15 a.m. to form the cortege.
