Ms. Jones was a Louisville native, and a graduate from Central High School. After getting her undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville, she decided to attend Howard Law School, where she graduated 4th in a class of 70. She returned to Louisville and in 1959 become the first African-American woman attorney in the state. She at a law office on Broadway, and was a prosecuting attorney at the Louisville Domestic Relations Court.

She was very active in Louisville, and besides being an attorney of noted boxer Muhammad Ali, was a member of many groups and organizations. Among them: Louisville Legal Society, National Housewives League, the Independent Voters Association, the Community Baptist Church, Louisville Women's Bar, American Bar Association, the National Urban League, Iota Phi Lambda, Zeta Phi Beta, the YWCA, and was a member of the Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church.

Ms. Jones was murdered in the early morning hours of August 5, 1965, and the case is still unsolved.
