HOULTON - Villa G. White, 99, passed away peacefully February 26, 2015, with her family by her side. She was born October 4, 1915, in Island Falls, the daughter of Heber and Ella (Atkinson) Grant.

Villa grew up in New Brunswick, returned to Houlton and worked for many families as a housekeeper and cook.

Villa married Mark White on Dec. 7, 1941. While Mark was in the service, she worked in a defense plant in Massachusetts. In her later years, Villa worked at the hospital in the kitchen.

She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal, the St. Martha's Guild and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed talking on the phone to all her family and friends.

Villa enjoyed crocheting-especially hand towels-and donated many of them to the church bazaar. She enjoyed going to watch the grandkids' athletic events. She wintered in Florida and kept in close relationship with her "snowbird" friends. Villa was a very social, outgoing person. She loved walking with her friend Annie. She was a fighter who faced life's challenges head on. Villa had an amazing memory.

Villa is survived by her son, John White and his wife, Brenda; four grandchildren, Jason White, Jeremy White, Timothy White and Amanda White and two great-grandchildren, Kyle White and Ethan McHatten; Villa particularly appreciated her visits from Jason White and Kyle White, as they were especially diligent in giving of their time and support. She is also survived by her brother, Cecil Grant and his wife, Marie; five sisters, Maxine Anderson, Helen Williams, Geraldine McHatten, Gladys Williams, Edith Doody and her husband, Reuben; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Mark in 2003; her son, Richard in 1990; her siblings, Elva Wellington, Frances Farrell, Wilbur Grant, Robert Grant, George Grant, Eldon Grant, Josephine Lutwick and Phyllis Dixon.

Gifts may be made in Villa's memory payable to the Church of the Good Shepherd Sunday School, Ronald McDonald House or the charity of one's choice c/o Dunn Funeral Home 11 Park Street Houlton, 04730. (Bangor Daily News 2/27/2015)
