Master Sergeant Douglas Lloyd was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, MSG Lloyd served our country until May 28th, 1967 in Bing Doung, South Vietnam. He was 37 years old and was married. It was reported that Douglas died from small arms fire. His body was recovered. Douglas was born on June 4th, 1929 in Cramerton, North Carolina. MSG Lloyd is on panel 21E, line 005 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 16 years.

Thanks Doug, you helped a young trooper with a chip on his shoulder become a better person. When I arrived in RVN, the First Stars and Stripes newspaper that I picked up had you and our other team mate Clyde Ward's obituaries in it. Sad welcome to a sad land. John Blevins.

My uncle by marriage: My Uncle That Is Gone But Not Forgotten. Doug was married to my mother's sister Jean Moore Lioyd and they had 3 beautiful daughters. He would be proud today of his daughters. He use to take his mother in law which is my Grandma to the mountains with them and I would always go, cause my Grandma watched me while my mother worked. At Easter Doug would buy me and Pam some baby ducks and later when they had gotten bigger he would take us and the ducks to the lake to set them free. He wrote home a letter and said to tell Lori he had seen a monkey and it looked just like her, because I always told him I wanted a monkey. I remember his funeral and the 21 gun salute that I will never forget. May God bless you and keep you safe as we all shall meet up with you one day in Heaven, Love your your Lil Monkey. Lori Abundis-Ortiz, PO Box 324, Cornelius NC 28031.

NOT FORGOTTEN: I WAS ONLY 10 YRS OLD BUT I REMEMBER GOING TO HIS FUNERAL. I REALLY DID NOT KNOW THE MAN. HE WAS A COUSIN OF MY MOTHER, SHIRLEY LLOYD, STATESVILLE N.C. BUT AS A 20 YEAR VETERAN OF THE USAF SECURITY POLICE AND AS A GULF WAR VET, I OFTEN THINK OF HIM AND HIS SUPREME SACRIFICE TO OUR GREAT NATION. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. MEN LIKE HIM MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO LIVE AS WE DO. Grover Hamilton(MSGT, USAF - RET, 2346 Mail Coach Court, Waldorf, MD 20602, [email protected].

Served with him in 6th SFGA: Doug Lloyd was a stocky older man as far as soldiers go. I remember him as a man who enjoyed life and kept everyone laughing. It's been 33 years since we served together but I can still picture his laughing, smiling face. He was one of the true heroes in my life simply because of the way he lived his life. A good man and a good soldier. Jim Main.

Uncle Doug was my mother's step-brother. I don't remember him much, but I do remember his funeral. I was a young teenager and I had never seen such splendor! There were soldiers everywhere. This was his third tour of duty to Vietnam and he had not been there long this time. He had 3 daughters, Penny, Patty, and Pam. I remember my mama being so proud of him. Joy Mauney, 126 Ginger Lane, Mooresville, NC 28115.

He is the Wife of Mrs Jean S Floyd, Cornelius, NC; Son of Mrs Laura M Sherrill, 535 Goodnight Street, Moorseville, NC and Three Daughters of the home.

He served as a Master Sergeant with Detachment A-333(CHI LINH), Alpha Company, 5th Special Forces Group, USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Republic of Korea War Service Medal, The Korean Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal, The US Expeditionary Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal(s), The National Defense Service Medal(s) and The Good Conduct Medal(s).
